Community Involvement

Community involvement is an important part of creating a positive workplace. Giving back and making a difference through charitable work is encouraged and part of the Western Tidewater Regional Jail Mission.

The organization has participated in events such as Holiday Wreath Laying at a Veteran’s Cemetery, food drives to stock a community food pantry, and school supply and coat drives for local kids of all ages.  WTRJ staff members regularly donate to the United Way and have participated in their Annual Day of Caring Event.  Officers attend and are usually the “favorites” at Career Day events held by local schools. Another program that has also served members of this community is the Scared Straight Program.

Staff members participate annually in National Night Out held throughout Suffolk and serve on the planning board to support the event.  During the Holidays, staff members and other community supporters donate time and resources to provide food baskets for needy citizens throughout Western Tidewater.

By volunteering our time and resources, our staff members make a direct and positive impact on the communities where we live and work.  We stay connected, share interests, and most importantly, we are proud to give back and work towards uniting the community as we help those in need.
