Non-Financial and Compliance Audits
  • The Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Corrections continued to grant unconditional certification to the Authority following its triennial inspection in January 2023. The Authority was awarded recognition for 99% compliance (meeting all but one applicable standard, which was corrected onsite and a corrective plan of action put in place to ensure compliance with that standard).  This certification was originally granted in 1993.
  • Certification inspections are conducted every three years and unannounced Life, Health and Safety (LHS) inspections are conducted annually. The last Life, Health and Safety inspection was conducted in January 2023 and there were two (2) areas that needed improvement, for which corrections were made while the auditor was onsite.
  • The United States Marshals Service continued to grant unconditional certification to the Authority following its annual inspections of the facility with 100% compliance. The last USMS audit was completed in September 2023.
  • The last Federal Bureau of Prisons inspection was conducted in May 2022 and the Authority was in 100% compliance with applicable standards.
  • The last LIDS Compliance audit was conducted in September 2022 with 100% compliance.
  • The last PREA audit was completed in April 2023 with 100% compliance.
  • As part of our medical program, we have continued to maintain our Pharmacy Registration from the Board of Pharmacy for the State of Virginia.
Education and Programs to Reduce Recidivism
  • Special Education (teaching individuals with IEP’s or special needs)
  • Transition (teaching inmates who do not meet normal criteria) Ex. low reading ability but not Special Ed.
  • General Education (working towards obtaining a GED)
  • Career Education/Delving Deeper (focuses on careers, health, interviewing process, history etc.)
  • Career Readiness Certificate (preparing inmates for workforce skills)
  • Personal Finance (teaches the need to understand budgeting, purchasing homes, credit, etc.)
  • Alcoholics Anonymous – AA (focuses on recovery and detoxification)
  • AA Mentorship (a religious course offered to both male and female inmates)
  • Substance abuse (provide treatment methods to help overcome addictive symptoms)
  • Anger Management (understanding life triggers and how to deal with them)
  • Parenting (teaches inmates the proper way to motivate and discipline youthful children)
  • Building Bridges (reconnecting mother and child through recorded readings of baby books)
  • Trauma Informed Care (exploring the extreme stress or PTSD of the past and developing coping skills)
  • W.O.R.T.H. – Women Overcoming Recidivism Through Hope
  • Fifth Judicial Circuit Court Drug Treatment Court (supervised, cost-effective, collaborative approach for handling those with substance use disorders)
  • BrightView Health Treatment Center (addiction treatment)
